This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Soul food Sessions The Table is Set: A four-city tour served with a Coke event in Baltimore Maryland. If you are not familiar, Soul Food Sessions is a nonprofit started in 2017 to break stereotypes and enhance opportunities for African American chefs. Soul Food Sessions offers a unique dining experience that features African American chefs' diverse culinary skills. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 16 percent of chefs in America are African American. Soul Food Sessions’ goal is to change this narrative by bringing awareness and giving African American chefs a platform. The Four-city tour started in Charlotte North Carolina, and hit Washington DC, Baltimore and will end in Charleston South Carolina in the fall.

Coca-Cola Consolidated, the local bottler of Coke products and the largest independent bottler in the country, is partnering with Soul Food Sessions to bring the tour to life and elevate Soul Food Sessions' mission. Coca-Cola Consolidated’s Purpose is to honor God, serve others, pursue excellence and grow profitably. And with a mission like this, it is evident why they are playing such an important role in the Soul Food Sessions tour. In addition to the partnership with local chefs, Coca Cola Consolidate will grant a minimum of $10,000 in scholarships to culinary students across all four markets.

I loved attending this event. The Baltimore dinner was held on July 29th at the American Brewery. The food was so great!! The signature dish was the Charred Corn Crab Cakes with Watermelon Rind Slaw. Coca-Cola Life™ pairs with the subtle natural sweetness of watermelon rind to bring out the complex texture and flavors, yet lightness, of crab cakes.

I also enjoyed these other dishes! Everything was prepared so well!

The table is set for a lasting change in the culinary industry and your seat is waiting at an event in your community. Be sure to check out Soul food Sessions to learn more!
